Dr Hulda Clark (in her book A Cure for All diseases), reckons " metal doesnt belong in our foods or in our bodies". She has researched extensively and found that gold, (just from wearing gold jewellry or having gold fillings in our teeth), gets lodged with other heavy metals in our breasts, pancreas, uterus, proststate and other organs in the body, attacting bacteria and parasites and leading to disease. I think this is just a gimmick to make a cheap product like salt more expensive and look more appealing to the rich and famous! So it is all about profit - not health! I personally would not touch it! I think it could be dangerous!

Haven't you ever heard of the drink Goldwasser? It's an alcoholic beverage from Poland that contains floating gold flakes, that are totally OK for you to drink. The flakes are very concentrated in gold – about 22 or 23 karats of purity. And no - no one has ever died from drinking this stuff, so it's safe to say that consuming gold flakes is NOT a health hazard…

Here's a bit of general knowledge for you. Ever heard of the Joni Mitchell song "We are stardust, We are golden"? Well, literally we are golden, as we have trace amounts of gold in our bodies. So this means that consuming gold, in sensible amounts of course (such as the negligible amount contained in a gold leaf), is not a health risk at all, as it is part of our bodies anyhow!

The idea of using gold leafs in the culinary world has been around for ages! During Medieval times use of gold leaf decoration on food or in drinks was done in order to show off the host's good wealth. The leaf in itself is actually a very pure 23 karat gold nugget (92% pure gold) that is processed into a very fine sheet in a process called goldbeating. It just makes a very fancy and beautiful decoration because the color of this pure gold is very vibrant.
