A girlfriend of mine was telling me about this gorgeous ring that she saw that she claimed was made out of black gold. I've never heard of black gold, and I've certainly never seen any black gold jewelry. Is she pulling my leg?

Yup there sure is. Though the term black gold usually is slang for petrol (and sometimes for coffee or pepper), there is also such thing as a black gold precious metal used in jewelry design. Black gold has a deep and impressive shade and is a totally original option if you're in the market for gold jewelry, especially for men. Black gold men's rings are totally hot and fairly rare. There are a few different processes for making gold black and each method results in a slightly different black gold hue: Electroplating, patination, controlled oxidation of carat gold containing chromium or cobalt and laser treatment.
