if jewelery sellers claim something is sterling silver, but it has no 925 stamp, who/ what do you beleive? I'm asking specifically about Silpada jewlery

Not all sterling silver items will have the stamp. For example, a sterling silver necklace will have no room for a stamp, but that doesn't mean that it's not sterling silver. If you are not sure, take it to a jeweler or buy a cheap testing kit. Or you can ask Silpada to provide some sort of official documentation. BTW, if it tarnishes, it's probably silver.
