I want to purchase a loose diamond on the internet. I have set my mind on some specific diamond characteristics but I have now idea how much should it cost and how to compare its price in different online stores. Any tips?

This is a really good question. You want to make sure that you are comparing apples to apples when you are comparing different stones. I would suggest that you only consider stones that are GIA-certified. GIA is the scientific, nonprofit grading lab that not only created the 4 C's int he first place, but their mission is to protect the public trust in gemology. If you only compare stones that are GIA-certified, then you know they have been graded using the same strict standards. If you were to compare uncertified stones or stones graded by different labs with varying standards, you would be comparing apples to oranges. Hope this helps!

First of all you should browse around through big online diamond stores and see which dealers sell the diamond you want. Just google your way through some stores and check out store reviews sites if you wish to know which stores are most reliable.
Most respectable online diamond stores have a database of numerous diamonds, categorized by shape and the 4 c's. Find your diamond (or a list of diamond that fall in the range of the combination of the 4 c's which are most appealing to you). You would probable need to fill the diamond size range (carat weight), the color grade (or color grade range), clarity grade and cut. Some diamond databases also allow you to search them through by choosing the desired diamond certification and diamond proportions. You can also choose a price range.
After one search you will probably still have a long list of diamonds. It is best to gradually become more precise about the above attributes and narrow your search slowly. Maybe you can add desired cut features, such as table width or total depth, bringing you closer to an ideal cut diamond. By this stage you would already have a clue how much your desired diamond should cost, more or less.
Using diamond price comparison sites, like the one you are reading at this moment, would enable you to understand a diamond's price range very efficiently and quickly.
