If so, who is behind this diamond price list and is it reliable? And where is it available?
September 5, 2010
Yep that is exactly right. A new diamond price list was recently issued by IDEX Online, which stands for the International Diamond Exchange and is headquartered in New York. The IDEX diamond price list was just presented in mid November 2009 to the Conference of Presidents of diamond bourses. Contrary to the Rapaport diamond price list, which is directed at diamond traders, diamond dealers and diamond retailers, what is revolutionary about IDEX's new Suggested Retail Price List for Diamonds is that it is especially designed for the use and convenience of regular consumers that are shopping for diamonds and diamond jewelry. The Diamond SRP price list is constantly updated relative to market prices for diamonds, and it will be available on the ebay diamond sales site around the end of November 2009. IDEX devised the diamond price list upon the request of the World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB). To use the diamond price list, consumers can type in the parameters of a particular diamond - that is, the four Cs: color, clarity, cut and carat weight - and press enter, and the system will calculate the maximum suggested retail price for that particular diamond. The diamond price list will be available free of charge to everyone, no strings attached. Some wrinkles with the system might still have to be smoothed out, as the diamond price list is based on prices in the United States, which may slightly differ from the prices in other diamond markets such as in China or Europe. Although it's too early to say, in the future IDEX might create alternative diamond price lists for other regions outside the United States. More information on the diamond SRP price list for consumers is available at www.diamondmsrp.com. The diamond industry hopes that the new diamond price list will boost customer confidence and ultimately also boost diamond sales.
