Is it okay to get diamond studs as my first pair of earrings??

My friend said that the first earrings you get have to be really plain, but it's my boyfriend who is getting me my first earrings...and he wants to buy me a pair of diamond earrings as a birthday present. Is it okay???

There is no rule stating that your first pair of studs need to be plain. The only reason that poeple have said this is that if you wear something really bulky, your ear (if they are recently pierced) will be more likely to get infected. The reason for this is that bulkier earrings may get caught on something and they also may stretch out the hole on already sensitive skin. Aside from that, there is absolutely no reason that you can't wear diamond studs.

I really agree with the above answer...it just seems like it would be in your best interests to save those special earrings for when your piercings have healed up all the way. My first studs (and yeah, this is kind of gross, but it's true) got really crusty over the course of the 7 weeks I had them in. When I took them out the first time, they were kind of just...not good looking. I didn't wear them again...in fact, I threw them away. My mom bought me a pair of golden hoops, which were my very first beautiful pair of earrings. I put those in and felt like a princess. Just be patient and you'll get to enjoy them!

Well, yes and no. Firstly, it isn't a matter, really, of the decorative part of the earring (the stud). That part can honestly look like anything, since it isn't the part that pierces your ear...the important thing is that the post itself be the kind that is used to pierce ears. What I mean by that, if you don't know much about ear piercing, is that the first earring is a certain way because the end is sharp and pointed (more than usual) if you are getting your ears pierced at a jewelry store that pierces using a piercing gun (meaning the earring goes directly into the ear). If you are getting it done using something else and are then going to insert the earring, I don't really know what to say, except that maybe it wouldn't be a big deal if you could put the diamond one's in. The thing is that when you first have earrings, you have to disinfect the ears and sometimes when you take the first studs out they are kind of worn out and you don't wear them again... You should think about the fact that you only have to keep your first studs in for 6-8 weeks...after that you can just take those babies out and put whatever else you want in, instead! If I were you and my boyfriend was going to buy me a really special pair of diamond stud earrings... I would just be patient and then enjoy your beautiful new diamond studs when you finally get those first earrings out.
