what are screw backs for studs and what's the difference between those and safety backs?

I think screw backs are screwed onto like a threaded post to secure the earring to the earlobe and safety backs are two spring like loaded tabs that grip the rod holding it in place. hope this info helps, happy holidays!

not sure if this helps but when i purchased diamond studs for my wife and considered whether to have them in 18K white gold or in platinum the jeweler told me that platinum is not the best solution for screwbacks because it is soft and over time the treads turn into mush.
Not sure about safety backs though.
