I'm especially paranoid because it's my fiance's grandmother engagement ring and it is totally irreplaceable. I just always feel like the ring is about to slip off my finger or something, and that I won't even feel that it's missing.

Whoever said your ring was most likely insured, probably didn't notice that you said it was an heirloom diamond ring. It probably ISN'T insured, and even if it is, you won't be able to get the same ring back with the same sentimental value as the ring that belonged to your fiance's grandmother. Some people get a replica made of their real diamond engagement ring to wear around if they are afraid of wearing the valuable original on a daily basis.

I feel you girl, I'm totally paranoid about losing my rings too. When I do wear my engagement ring out, I always pinch together my thumb and ring finger, to make a sort of closed loop, when I walk over sewers and bridges, and when I'm washing my hands or doing any sort of high-risk ring-loss activities. So far that has worked and I still have my engagement ring, although I didn't do as good of a job of holding on to my fiance...

If you're afraid of losing your diamond engagement ring, it may mean that it is not the right size for you. If your engagement ring feels loose or feels as if it might slip off your finger at any time, that is a sure sign that you should get the diamond ring resized. It is very easy to get a ring resized and any jeweler will do it for you. Even better, bring the engagement ring to the jewelers where it was purchased, and he may even resize it for free. The ring should feel snug without pinching, and it should take some effort to slide it over your knuckle.

I know what you mean, but I'm actually more afraid of losing my diamond engagement ring when it is off my finger than when it's on my finger. I always take my engagement ring off when I wash my hands or do the dishes or go swimming, and I'm way paranoid that I'll forget to put it back on and I'll leave it by the sink in some public place someday. I'm afraid that I'll misplace my engagement ring around the house too, or that it will fall when I take it off. I think the sure fire method of keeping your diamond engagement ring safe is actually wearing it as much as possible.
