My wife thinks we should pierce our daughter’s ears, but she is only 6 months old – isn’t that far too young?

My wife wants to pierce our daughter’s ears because she thinks that people will then know that she is a girl. She also says that when you get your ears pierced at an older age they are more likely to grow over. What kind of earrings does a 6 month old wear? Are cheap metals dangerous for her? Will she feel the pain?

2. Are you SERIOUS!?!?! How can you possibly pierce your daughters’ ears when she is that young? I cannot wait until I have children one day (still waiting for the big diamond engagement ring though) and when I do they are going to wait, like your mother said, 16 is perfect! Okay, well maybe not that long, but what about her perfect little baby ears? How can you possible put holes in them when they are so new? I mean it is up to you, but why not let your daughter make the decision when she is old enough to do so?

I see plenty of babies with their ears pierced. I really think it is up to the parents. I know that when I was little all I wanted was to get my ears pierced and my mother said absolutely not until I was 16! So when I had my first daughter I went to the jeweler almost right away to make sure she started out on the right foot. Babies in diamonds – really, does it get any better?
