An old mine cut diamond is a predecessor to the modern day round brilliant and one of the earliest brilliant cut diamonds. They are cushion shaped with a high crown, deep pavilion, and large culet. It had the same number of facets as the modern day round brilliant but displayed less brilliance and fire due to the deep pavilion. "Old-miners" were the most popular cut diamonds of the 18th century.

It's a cushion shaped diamond that has not been cut ideally, and has fair-good polish and symmetry. Once upon a time before people really knew how to properly cut diamonds the diamond was forced to fit the ring, and sometimes peices of the diamond would be cut off just so that it would fit.

Today people get these diamonds for a vintage, old fashioned look

Old Mine is a funny type of diamond cut, where the symmetry is really bad and the diamond looks like it was cut very unprofessionally. This is to create a vintage look.
