I've never seen a piece of jewelry like you are describing, but I do remember when I was a child having a keychain with a small plastic viewfinder to look at photos, etc. You can actually put a photo of anything in there, though you need the negative. And with digital photography becoming more and more popular, you almost never have a negative. They are still popular souvenirs, though, at tourist attractions. I think they are called "keychain photo viewers."
