Pearl jewelry has a rather oldies association in my mind, though I know that some popular celebrities wear pearl jewelry nowadays as well. Who are the celebrities that wear pearl jewelry - past and present?

Pearl jewelry may not be as flashy as diamond jewelry, but it certainly gives a classic understated magnificence to those who wear it. Of course celebrities not only wear pearl jewelry, they tend to wear pieces of pearl jewelry that are famous in and of themselves. For example, Elizabeth Taylor (also known for her famous love affair with diamonds), a living legend, also has a special relationship with pearl jewelry. Liz Taylor owned the famed La Peregrina, found in the sixteenth century off the Venezuelan coast. This gorgeous pearl was then brought to Spain and given to King Phillip the Second who bestowed the pearl upon his wife as a gift. Though the pearl spent hundreds of years as part of the royal jewelry collection of Spain, ultimately it came to be part of the jewelry collection of Elizabeth Taylor. Richard Burton, Elizabeth Taylor's 5th husband, who played opposite her in the film Cleopatra (the Queen of Egypt is also known for her relationship with pearl jewelry), bought the magnificent pearl for her for slightly under $40,000. Elizabeth Taylor went on to set the pearl in a beautiful Cartier necklace. La Peregrina is still part of her remarkable collection of diamond and pearl jewelry.
Jacqeline Bouvier, later known as Jacqueline Kennedy upon her marriage to John F. Kennedy and finally as Jacqueline Onassis (Jackie O) upon her marriage to Aristotle Onassis, was one of the greatest fashion icons of all time and a great lover of pearl jewelry. During the White House years, Jackie became a fashion legend as she was a beautiful woman with an amazing sense of style and grace, her style was mimicked by many women and even manufacturers adopted her style for some of their pieces as her look was in high demand. Jacqueline Kennedy had a French designer, Oleg Cassini design much of her clothing, but she also wore stunning pieces by such European designers as Gucci, Dior, Chanel, and more. In her later years, Jackie wore exceedingly more jewelry. She wore a stunning pearl necklace as part of her bridal jewelry at her wedding to John F. Kennedy. Jacqueline Kennedy also received a rare piece of pearl jewelry, known as the Margarita pearls, from the President of Venezuela when she and her husband visited Venezuela. This amazing piece of pearl jewelry is renowned for its unique and rare yellow hue.
