Is it true that my fingers are bound to swell up during pregnancy? Does that mean I have to take off my wedding ring?!

Please can someone tell me this is not true! I'm pregnant and just started my first trimester, and I'm wondering if my finger will swell up to the point I wouldn't be able to wear my wedding ring?

From past experience, let me say that unfortunately fingers DO tend to swell up! Like you, I wasn't at all thrilled with the dawning possibility that I would have to say goodbye to my wedding ring for 9 months. So I just didn't take the chance! What I mean is, I went to my local diamond jeweler and asked him if it was possible to temporarily resize my wedding ring. He said it's no problem that women often come to him to resize their rings at different stages of their lives and he even gave me a good deal when I told him I was pregnant (it was around 10 bucks). So I personally got it resized from a 6 to a 7, which was just perfect for me. As soon as I gave birth and got back to the old me, I went back to him and sure enough he had remembered me and resized it back to my original size. As it was so cheap and not a hassle at all, I strongly recommend doing this if it's as important for you as it was for me. So enjoy your pregnancy and good luck with your wedding ring!

I'm afraid to say that yes, your fingers will probably swell up during your pregnancy. However, there's nothing to worry about, as around 80 percent of women have experienced swollen fingers at one point or another during their pregnancy, could be to different extents, but still this is quite normal. Swollen fingers (or feet, which are also common to see) is an indication that your blood pressure level is high (again – this is normal for pregnant women). Of course you should go to see a doctor if you'll see that the swelling is abnormal. In regards to your wedding ring, it depends: like I said, a lot of women react differently to pregnancy so you might hear of pregnant women who wore their wedding ring all throughout the whole duration of their pregnancy, but there might be pregnant women out there that just couldn't handle the strain. Bottom line is that it is highly advised for pregnant women to consider taking rings off for the entire period of pregnancy to avoid affecting circulation.

Yes, your fingers will probably swell up to some extent during your pregnancy. But instead of getting your diamond ring resized and go through all that hassle, why don’t you do something much simpler? Just move your diamond engagement ring to your pinky finger as a temporary solution. Also, there's a possibility that your fingers are not going to swell up too much and you'll actually be able to wear your diamond ring throughout the period of your pregnancy, just like me. Although my fingers became larger in size, I was still able to wear all my rings – including my diamond engagement ring, without too much trouble.

Let me give you a good piece of advice if you haven't already thought of this option. You should consider wearing your wedding ring as a pendant to a necklace! This way you are still wearing your ring on you the whole time, plus you're saving the costs of having to resize it twice! I think it's also a really fashion forward statement to wear your rings in this way, so that piece of advice goes for any ring that you really LOVE but just won't fit you anymore… Hope I was able to help, and good luck with your pregnancy!
