What are sizing balls?

I have lost a lot of weight recently, but my knuckles are the same size and now my engagement ring is too big on the base of my finger. I saw that "sizing balls" are an option for ring sizes but I don't know what they are. Help?

Sizing balls are two small yellow gold or white gold balls that are soldered to the inside of the ring shank in order to make the fit of the rings tighter around the base of the finger.  It's a way to "resize" or "refit" your ring without removing metal from the gold band.  Adding sizing balls is a technique that is frequently used to size rings for individuals who have large knuckles with a thin finger base.  They can also help in your case- where the ring swings or twists while you are wearing it due to weight loss. Some people complain that the balls can be uncomfortable, so consult with your jeweler before you decide to go ahead and add sizing balls.
