Best way to secretly find out my girlfriend's ring size?

She wears a ring constantly and only takes it off once in a great while and barely ever lets it leave her sight (it was from a family member who had passed on). I CAN get the ring for a while, but I can't keep it for a night to bring it to a jeweler or anything. Is there any way I can size it if I get it then go to the bathroom? She just had surgery and she had some strong meds that put her out, which would have been the perfect time to use string around her finger, but I missed that opportunity. I have a while to figure this out. What would be the best and easiest way to measure a ring she has without taking it to a jeweler?

I measured my wife's (girlfriend then) finger by placing the ring she wore on on my pinky making a mental note of were it stopped. Just comment on how small her fingers are compared to yours and ask to try her's on. Then I went to the jewelry store and was able to duplicate the process by trying on different rings ensuring the right fit.

When she's in the shower or sleeping, take her ring and press it in a bar of soap. Take the bar of soap to the jewelry store, or measure the diameter of the imprint.

Or take her ring and draw the ringsize (of the inner diameter).

Or tie a string around her finger when she is asleep and draw out the ringsize.

If creativity fails, get her really drunk, take a ringsizer from a jewelry store (craftily prepared ahead of time) and measure her finger. If she has a foggy memory, just blame the booze.

Unfortunately, the only foolproof way to get the right size is to get it from a jeweler. But there are loads of ways to do that. You could get the ring away from her by offering to take it to your local jeweler to get cleaned and checked over, then have the jeweler check the ring size. It's a valid excuse because prongs should be regularly checked on rings to make sure that they are all secure. If she won't go for that, then do you have a relative with a birthday or other occasion coming up? You could ask for her help in choosing a piece of jewelry and say, "Hey, her fingers are about your size", and then get her to tell you that way. Or alternately, you could be holding hands and remark on how delicate and slender her fingers are, and then ask her size. It's best to follow that up with wondering your own finger size as well, which could prompt a trip to the jewelers. Yet another idea is to enlist her friends. Get her friend to take her shopping and stop in a jewelry store “for fun” and get the size out of her that way.
There are lots of ways to get this done; the key is just to be creative! Good luck and congrats on your upcoming engagement!
