I plan on designing my own engagement ring and have been researching diamonds and different ring settings online. I recently came across an engagement ring called the 'micro pave' setting. I'm not familiar with this particular stetting. Could you tell me a little more about it?

I just wanted to add to the previous post and say that micro pave settings are often used in diamond pendants as well. They are a cheaper way for the pendant to sparkle because it is cheaper to have a bunch of tiny diamonds that to have 1 larger one. They are also used often in a halo engagement ring setting to encircle the main stone. I think you should seriously consider using the micro pave in a halo type setting because I have seen them and they are absolutely stunning.

The micro pave setting is a version of the traditional pave setting, wherein the diamonds appear as though they are 'paved' around the ring's band. The diamond's are fitted snugly together to create a uniform line of small diamonds. The micro pave setting uses an even smaller amount of metal in its setting, as well as smaller diamonds. The micro pave setting creates the illusion of an unbroken line of diamonds, which appear to blend together perfectly. The micro pave setting is most popularly used in engagement ring designs, as a setting for accent stones rather than for center stones (since this particular setting design is meant to accommodate thirty to fifty low carat diamonds, totaling no more than one carat in weight). The micro pave setting is delicate yet extremely sparkly and brilliant in appearance, since this setting uses a miniscule amount of metal in its design most of the diamonds' surfaces are left exposed, which allows for more light to travel through their structures, giving the diamonds a glitterier look. Also, the micro pave setting creates a smoother ring surface, ensuring that the ring does not get caught on clothing and on various tactile fabrics. The main drawback for micro pave settings is their durability. Unfortunately, it is not uncommon for one of the tiny diamonds or precious gemstones to pop out of its setting. Since the micro pave setting makes use of a small amount of metal, the diamonds aren't very secure and can sometimes shift in their setting.
