I'm ready to pop the question to my girlfriend, and I've been to jewelry stores all over town to pick out the perfectdiamond engagement ring. Apparently engagement rings can be made out of an endless variety of precious metals, something I didn't know when I first started looking. That makes the choice a bit harder though... Of all the things I've seen, I'm most partial to the engagement rings made from white gold. They look the most classy and refined to me. However, I don't know much about white gold and whether it's a good enough material for an engagement ring. Help?

Compared to platinum gold actually doesn't get scratched so easily. Platinum might be durable but it's by no means scratch resistant. In addition gold is much cheaper than platinum and lighter, which makes it much more practical and comfortable in my opinion. If platinum wasn't 10 times rarer than gold, and mining platinum didn't involve such a complex process than gold would remain the world's number one precious metal. I think that gold, both yellow and white are prettier than platinum.
