I think the white and blue diamonds would look so much better set in a white gold or platinum ring. Should I get the ring reset? Is that complicated? Do you think my fiance would notice?

Unless your fiance is totally color blind - he'll definitely notice if your ring is suddenly white gold instead of yellow gold. Don't count on his cluelessness because you'll probably get in trouble in the end. First of all, you should definitely TELL your fiance how you feel. Openness is the best way of avoiding arguments. Let him know how much you love the ring, and make up something about how your skin tone doesn't match yellow gold or something. Whatever you do, don't go behind his back and get the engagement ring changed because that's a surefire recipe for disaster. As for the ring, you can either have the blue and white diamonds reset in white gold or platinum, but that might be costly. Your other option is having the yellow gold ring plated with white gold, which means coated with a very thin outer layer of white gold. This is fairly easy to do - the only problem is that it isn't entirely permanent. After a few years the white gold plating will start to wear off of your ring, and the yellow gold below will start shining through. You will have to get the engagement ring re-plated every few years to keep it in tip top shape. Whatever you choose to do, I think it is worthwhile to have the ring changed, because it is important to like your engagement ring - after all, you'll probably be wearing it day in and day out, and it would be a real bummer to have such a fancy and extravagant piece of jewelry that your didn't even really like.
