I really have no clue as to how much I am supposed to spend on my girlfriend's diamond engagement ring. I would love to know what is the average carat weight and price for an engagement ring in the US today so I could make a better and more educated decision. I really don't want to let my girlfriend down...

Diamond engagement rings tend to display a great range in terms of price and carat weight seeing as naturally every person has a different budget in mind. Price and carat size tend to go hand in hand, so therefore a higher carat size will usually correspond with a higher influence on its price. To be completely honest with you, there is another crucial factor that must also be taken into consideration in order to fully understand what affects price, and that is diamond quality. For example, a certain diamond could be an amazing 2.5 carats in weight, but if it has poorer quality (covered with blemishes or contains inclusions) it could actually be sold for the equivalent price of a much lower 1.0 carat diamond. The United States national average for the carat size of diamonds chosen for engagement rings currently stands at 0.38 carats. Generally speaking, the carat weight averages of engagement ring diamonds is actually on the increase if you look at the past decade or so. It seems like the bar has risen and more and more men are opting for bigger and more striking diamond engagement rings. With regard to the price for such remarkable rings, the average price spent on a diamond engagement ring these days is somewhere between $2500 and $3000 US dollars. Although many have heard the notion that a diamond engagement ring should be at least 1.0 carat in weight, this is a relatively new sentiment. The fact of the matter is that a diamond engagement ring should suit the individual it is being given to and should be affordable to the person buying it. Instead of occupying yourself with the raw facts of price and carat, you should always remember that an engagement ring actually represents the love and commitment felt between one person to another.
