Which metals should I wear if I'm allergic to fake jewelry?

I have really sensitive skin and all the cheap jewelry I've tried to wear has left me with red marks, rashes, and skin discoloration, no matter whether it's earrings, necklaces or even brooches! I've heard there are some metals that are more allergenic than others. Which precious metals are best for people with sensitive skin?

I had a lot of problems as a child when I got my ears pierced. I had them pierced three times before my doctor told me to try wearing earrings made out of 24 k gold. As soon as I tried the gold, my ears healed and I was perfectly fine.

What is interesting though is that 20 years later, I can wear other types of metal without a problem.

You should be safe if you wear gold, platinum or titanium. I had many allergic reactions to earrings when I was a child until I tried wearing gold studs. This was the only thing that helped me. People also say that platinum and titanium are also hypoallergenic.

It is a condition that may change with time, because now many years later, I am able to wear costume jewelry with no problems.

I think that previous responder was actually correct. You do have a good excuse to have your friends and family buy you some real jewelry. I know, from my own experience, that my body simply doesn't respond well to any low grade metals. Whenever I need to wear earrings or rings for a long time, I always choose 24k gold earrings, surgical steel earrings or platinum earrings.

I guess you have a good excuse to have your loved one buy you some gold, or maybe your body just isn't willing to settle for anything else. I'm kidding, just try to avoid Nickel.

I would suggest you wear a pure form of gold, silver or titanium (if you're not allergic to silver). Sterling silver would probably be your best bet but you could also try stainless steel and get the same effect. If you insist and wearing jewelry made out of base metal alloys then you could always try applying clear nail polish to the part of the metal that touches you, that way the contact with your skin will be mineralized and you could avoid an allergic reaction.
