What are the precious metals?

I know about gold and silver, but what else is there? Or are gold and silver even considered precious metals? My dad says copper is not, Is that true? Which are?

your dad's absolutely right. Not every metal is a precious metal. Precious metals are the ones thought of as rare, but they are also defined chemically as such. They are less reactive, and have higher melting points than other elements, and they're also more ductile and have higher lustre. They include silver and gold, as you mentioned, as well as platinum and other platinum group metals such as rhodium, palladium, iridium, ruthenium, and osmium. precious metals are used in jewelry, art, and coinage, but also have many industrial uses. Aside from these uses, precious metals are also sought for their value and purchased as financial investments. In recent years the recycling of precious metals became a lot more abundant, and the prices of these metals saw a substantial increase. Other precious metals I haven't mentioned are bismuth, beryllium, gallium, tellurium, mercury, indium, and germanium
