First of all, Sugilite is a genuine gemstone. It comes in a variety of colors including deep purple, blue, reddish purple, yellow and black. The color of a Sugilite will depend on the exact chemical components it has, varying from Potassium (K), Sodium (Na), Iron (Fe), Silicon (Si) or Oxygen (O). The hardness of a Sugilite is fairly high, having a value of 6.0 to 7.5 on the Moh's scale, making it harder than turquoise and softer than topaz. This gemstone is very special in the sense that it was only recently discovered, in 1944. It was first excavated in a small Japanese island by a Japanese professor named Keinchi Sugi, hence the name Sugilite. Thereafter, Sugilite was found in other countries also, such as India (in 1955) and South Africa (in 1975). Nowadays, this particular gemstone could also be found in Australia, Canada and Italy (in addition to Japan, India and South Africa).
