At least one of the men responsible for this horrible attack was arrested in Taveta, Kenya as he was trying to escape to Tanzania. Apparently, the government in Kenya is continuing the search for the rest of the people involved in the bloody attack, all over the rights to mine for gemstones.

Campbell Bridges became a famous name in the field of gemology in the sixties when he discovered tsavorite, a dazzling green gemstone located on the border between Kenya and Tanzania. The notorious gemologist also later discovered tanzanite, a stunning blue gemstone. In the early seventies, one of the biggest names in the jewelry industry, Tiffany & Co, named the dazzling green gemstone Campbell Bridges had discovered tsavorite, the name of the national park where it was first found. Tragically, the famous Scottish gemstone expert was killed in Kenya by a violent mob on August 11, 2009. The attack was made on the seventy-one year old gemologist as well as his son and several local Kenyan workers. As Campbell Bridges' son, Bruce explained, the attack included knives, machetes, spears, and clubs, as well as bows and arrows. Apparently, the violence was a result of a prolonged disagreement regarding gemstone mining rights. According to Mr. Bridges, miners would unlawfully dig for gemstones on the Bridges' property. The ongoing dispute between the Bridges family and the shady gemstone miners actually began 3 years earlier, proceeding to threats on the lives of the Bridges', and eventually culminating in this incredibly violent attack on the gemstone expert, his family, and their employees. Though Bruce Bridges survived the attack, most of the men on his side did not. He managed to load his father's body onto a truck and bring him to a clinic in Voi, Kenya, but unfortunately the notorious gemologist Campbell Bridges was dead on arrival. Bruce Bridges lays the blame on the police in Kenya as well as the government officials, since the family had asked for their assistance in the past and been met with absolutely no help, but rather more of a "what do you expect" attitude since as white owners of the land, the locals felt that they didn't rightfully own the gemstones.
