I don't want to end up looking like a fool, so I wanted to make sure that it's OK for guys to wear birthstones studded earrings before I buy them. Does it look too girly in your opinion?

Certainly guys can wear colorful birthstone stud earrings! Although it is more common to see men wearing colorless gemstones or plain metal stud earrings, a little color would do no harm! Garnet (grayish in hue), onyx (black colored), sapphire (blue tinged) or emerald (green colored) are all great alternatives to a colorless gemstone. If you are concerned with color then perhaps you should avoid pink sapphires, rubies, amethysts and other pastel colored birthstones It is also quite common for men to wear fancy colored diamond stud earrings or colorless earrings .

Sure, guys can wear birthstone earrings, but I think a lot of men might rather not.... It might make them feel too girly. If you want to get your man a special piece birthstone jewelery set with his birthstone on it (or both of yours), why don't you look into birthstone studded watch faces or watchbands, or my personal favorite - birthstone cufflinks. They're a little harder to find and your best bet may be to order them - there are plenty of online diamond stores - but they're definitely a unique and super-stylish gift.

Birthstone encrusted men's watches are a great idea. Since watches are thought to be a little more 'male oriented' than earrings, men might be more inclined to wear watches set with birthstones, rather than birthstone embedded stud earrings. Birthstone set men's watches are not only unique, but they can be rather sentimental. That is, the birthstones embedded into the watch's face and band can be a loved one's birthstone, the birthstone of a close relative or of an intimate friend.

If you're looking to buy birthstone studded earrings as a gift, you're best off checking with the man in question first. I think most men probably have pretty black or white opinions regarding whether men should wear colored birthstone stud earrings or not - and if you fall on one who's opposed, they may even be offended when they tear open the gift-wrapping to find birthstone earrings. If you'd rather stay on the safe side, I suggest you go for a men's birthstone encrusted watch instead.

I'm not sure many men would want to wear birthstone stud earrings, or at least colorful birthstone earrings. I think that colorful birthstones are a little too flashy when worn in something as conspicuous as stud earrings. I personally would prefer something a little more understated, like a birthstone encrusted watch, a birthstone set ring or birthstone cufflinks. If however, you insist on getting men's birthstone stud earrings then I suggest going with colorless sapphires, onyx, black or colorless diamonds, rather than colorful birthstones.
