Is there any way to repair scratches present on a pearl's surface?

I dropped my pearl-set platinum ring on a hard surface and now the pearl is covered with scratches. Is there any way to get the scratches out of my jewelry?

You should avoid buffing the pearl since it would only serve to remove more nacre from the pearls surface (the pearl's natural protective layer) and would only deepen the scratches. Also, rubbing alcohol onto the pearl's surface will not help, alcohol removes grease and dirt from pearls, it cannot remove scratches. You would probably need to get the pearls' scratches filled in. Go to your local jeweler and ask what can be done. If the treatment he recommends is too expensive, perhaps you could try smearing a fine coat of clear nail polish onto the pearl, it may help disguise the scratches.
