Where can I sell my old pearl jewelry? Will local jewelry shops be willing to take buy used pearl jewelry?
May 21, 2010
Not all jewelry stores buy used pearl jewelry or vintage pearl jewelry. Jewelry stores usually prefer buying gold or platinum and diamond jewelry. However, if the jeweler deals in estate jewelry he may be inclined to buy your pearl jewelry. If all else fails, you can try selling the pearls to a pawn shop, just make sure you know the value of your pearl jewelry before hand, so you won't get ripped off. Also, you could have your pearl jewelry appraised and put them up for auction on websites such as eBay.

Here are a few ideas on how and where to sell your used pearl jewelry:
1. Before you attempt to sell off your old pearl jewelry, have your pearl jewelry appraised by a licensed jeweler or gemologist. The appraisal will give you a good idea of the authenticity, quality and value of your pearl jewelry.
2. After you've had your pearl jewelry appraised and certified, your next step would be to look for local jewelry stores which deal in antique or estate jewelry. If your pearl jewelry is of good quality and value, an estate jeweler will be more than happy to take your precious pearl jewelry off of your hands. If the jeweler is not willing to buy your pearl jewelry, he may be able to recommend other perspective buyers for your pieces.
3. If you are unable to sell your used pearl jewelry at a local jewelry store, consider selling your items at a pawn shop. Since you've already had your pearl jewelry appraised, and have a good idea of its value, you will better equipped to negotiate with the pawn shop's proprietors as to the items' prices. By having your pearl jewelry appraised, you should be able to avoid getting ripped off by shady jewelry vendors.
4. Consider selling your old pearl jewelry online. You could try and sell your pearl jewelry items to an online website which deals and trades in used jewelry, or you could put your pearl jewelry up for sale on an online auction house (such as eBay). Set a starting price point on your pearl jewelry and watch as online shoppers bid on your pieces. Online auctions are a safe and easy way of selling your old jewelry items.
5. You could have your pearl jewelry sold for you by an auction house. Look up local, reputable auction houses which may be willing to put your old jewelry up for auction. Note that auction houses will only deal with genuine pearl jewelry, which is of high quality.
