Is it possible that I (or any other woman for that matter) just don't look good in pearl jewelry?

My mother once told me that I don't look good in pearls and it kind of stuck. My friends tell me there's no such thing! What do you think?

I have to disagree with the previous post. I definitely do not want to insult you, as I don't know you. I just simply wanted to state that it may be possible that the typical whitish looking pearls may not look good on you simply from a color perspective. We all know that depending on your skin tone and hair color, people have a color pallete that is flattering for them. People that are really pale should stay away from beige and cream colored clothes and jewelry because it washes them out. At the same token, people that are very tanned should try to stay away from greys and navy blues because they tend to look better on paler people.

So, depending on your skintone, it may be that whitish or beigy looking jewelry doesn't particularly flatter you. BUT dont worry because there is a solution! these days there are a lot of colored pearls. You can find them in black, pink, green, blue and many other colors. So.... I'm sure you will have no problem findins something that looks absolutely stunning on you!

I'm finding it difficult to express just how strongly I disagree with your mother! I think that pearl jewelry looks beautiful on any woman. I know that our parents' opinions can really stick with us, but ultimately we need to make our own decisions, from what jewelry to wear to what career path to pursue. Saying that you don't look good in pearls is like saying you don't look good in diamonds, or that black / what isn't your color – there's no such thing (your friends are absolutely right)! Pearl jewelry is such a classic, neutral option for adornment. I've never seen you before but I can honestly say that I'm sure pearl jewelry would look great on you, you just need to find the style and / or color that suits you best. There are many different pearls available, like Akoya cultured pearls, South Sea cultured pearls, black South Sea cultured pearls, freshwater cultured pearls, conch pearls, etc. Each type of pearl also has its own characteristics, be it a difference in color or texture. Akoya pearls actually come in a myriad of rich colors – white, green, gold, silver, and pink. They are also very lustrous. Aside from the classic white pearls, South Sea cultured pearls also come in a natural shade of gold, and are thus fittingly called golden pearls. As you have probably guessed from the name, black South Sea cultured pearls come from black lipped oysters. However, they are not only black, but rather a combination of violet, blue and green hues. Freshwater cultured pearls most often come in an oval shape or in the shape of a grain of rice. What makes conch pearls stand out is their fiery surface. There are also various different combinations of pearls with precious metals ranging from silver to every kind of gold (yellow, white, rose, 8 kt, 14 kt 18 kt, 24 kt). In short, with all these options for pearl jewelry, I'm sure you'll be able to find the right pearls for you.
