In gay marriage, what kind of rings do the guys give each other? Are they like heterosexual men's wedding rings or do they wear fancier wedding bands? Actually, do both partners wear wedding bands, or even neither partner? Is there any protocol for this kind of thing, or do gay men set their own personal rules when it comes to weddings?

If nothing else is stated, and the guys aren't true jewelry or diamond fans, then a simple wedding band will do. It's always better to discuss these things in advance to get to know the partner's expectations. Maybe some gay couples, who don't mark their engagement by fancy and expensive diamond engagement rings make up for it later with impressive wedding rings, but most gay couples I met were quite modest with their wedding bands.

Just like someone mentioned before me, buying a wedding band for a gay partner shouldn't be all that different from buying a wedding band to a straight partner. Lots of gay / lesbian couples opt for matching wedding bands, but this is not always the case. Actually, some people prefer buying a wedding band that actually reflects their partner's personality. For example, if your partner is a quiet and introvert type of guy, you should buy him something classy and delicate. On the other hand, if your partner has a wild and outgoing personality, then why not go completely overboard with his wedding band design? A great idea in this case would be to incorporate several colored gemstones that could also represent the colors of the rainbow flag! In any way, I think that you should make your wedding bands extra special by engraving a personal message along the inside perimeter of your bands. However, you must think long and hard about the actual message you want to put forth, seeing as it will last a lifetime. The personal engraving could be a special nickname you call each other, a simple dedication or even a lyric from a special song you both love. Another important aspect you should consider is where to buy your wedding rings. At a jewelry store, you might come across a backward salesperson who is witnessing his very first same-sex wedding band shoppers, and you might experience some awkward stares. Don't get me wrong – I am not saying you should refrain from shopping where you want to just because some people do not approve of your relationship, but all I am saying is that this sort of insulting experience could be avoided altogether. There are lots of online jewelry stores, completely supported by the Better Business Bureau (BBB) who offer a wide selection of wedding bands. Not only will shopping online be much more convenient and pleasant for you, but you will also find that a lot of websites offer a very user-friendly service that allows you to customize your own wedding bands, which could come in handy if you might choose to do so. Whatever you decide to do, I wish you two the best of luck on your new path in life, which symbolizes not only your immense love for one another but also the incredible courage that is required for you to do so!
