How should we go about buying our wedding rings?

My fiancé and I want to buy wedding rings but we just don't know where to start. Can anyone here provide us with some guidelines for how to buy the right wedding bands for us?

Wedding rings are a symbol of your union that will be worn by you and your loved one for many wonderful years to come. They reflect both your past and your future – in short, they better be good! As with any lifelong decision, making the correct choice can be really difficult if you don't have proper guidelines, so I'm going to try and give you all the tips I can on how to purchase wedding rings you'll love and be able to afford. The first question you need to ask yourselves is what's your style? Do you like vintage jewelry, modern jewelry? From the practical standpoint, if you're really into sports then that's something that you should take into consideration when choosing your wedding bands. You'll want wedding rings that are made of more durable gemstones and precious metals. It's also important that the wedding rings and engagement rings don't clash. In general, it's a good idea to stick with the same precious metal as the engagement ring. Think about whether or not you would like to get matching his and hers wedding rings or not. Though it's not a must, matching wedding bands do offer that special sense of sentimentality. However, it's often difficult for couples to agree on a certain wedding ring design. Don't force this issue, in the end the important thing is that you both love your wedding rings. I would also suggest taking your family traditions into consideration when choosing your wedding rings. Different cultures also have different traditions which you might want to take into account. You could also decide to start your very own family tradition by creating your wedding rings with the recycled pieces of jewelry that belonged to your families. Think about whether you want your wedding rings to be part of a stacked set of rings, including an engagement ring, anniversary ring, etc. If you like this idea, you should start with a wide band that you can build on. Consider whether or not you'd like to get your wedding rings engraved with personal messages, your wedding date, etc. Perhaps the most important consideration of all: be sure to start off with a budget and it's crucial that you don't stray too far from it – no matter how many gorgeous wedding rings you see. Believe me, you'll be needing that money when you officially start your life together.
