I own a round cut 1+ loose diamond that I intend on selling, but I fear that it's going to be harder for me because it's not set in a ring. Is this true?

You will surprisingly find that selling your loose diamond to a jewelry store isn't all that different than selling a complete mounted diamond ring. The specifications you provided in your question make your loose diamond even easier to sell. The fact that your loose diamond is round cut makes your diamond more sought after because after all, this is the most popular and outselling diamond cut. In addition, because your loose diamond is of a bigger size, measuring at 1+ carats, it is considered a rarer diamond and you will thus receive a better deal for it. As long as the diamond grading is sufficiently high, I don't think you will encounter any difficulties while selling your loose diamond. I advise you to receive several quotes from different jewelers before hurrying to sell your diamond, so you could get the best possible deal for your loose diamond.

I think it really depends on who you intend to sell your loose diamond to. If you're looking to advertise it on classifieds to try and sell it to ordinary people looking for jewelry, most likely it will be harder for you to make the sale. That's simply because people usually look for the complete set when buying some sort of diamond jewelry. I don't think people are too bothered with choosing a loose diamond and then going through the hassle of finding an appropriately sized ring setting for it, if they could alternatively just buy everything in one go as a complete diamond ring. Having said that, if you are looking to sell your diamond to a local jewelry store, you will probably be surprised to know that jewelers couldn't care less about the ring setting, as they would probably just sell it for scrap value to their metallurgist anyway. What jewelry stores really most care about is the diamond itself, so actually selling your loose diamond to a jewelry store is going to be just the same as if you were to sell the diamond mounted onto a ring.
