I recently got divorced and there's no use for my former diamond engagement ring anymore. I wonder if selling my diamond ring via classifieds is a recommended thing to do.

Putting your diamond up for sale on newspaper classifieds might seem good on paper (literally speaking), but it really isn't that cut out to do the job. I read somewhere that this approach rarely works for people and it proved to have only an 11 percent success rate. Advertising your precious diamond jewelry and exposing your personal details for everyone to see could also be quite dangerous, as it could lure potential crooks to your house. From what I understood, you could end up making lots of appointments with prospective customers and get stood up on many occasions. It seems like posting classifieds is a total waste of your time and I am sure that there are a lot more effective methods which you could execute when attempting to sell your diamond jewelry.

As someone who found classifieds extremely helpful when I sold my unwanted diamond necklace (it reminded me too much of my ex-boyfriend), I could wholeheartedly recommend this method. I don’t know if you are aware of this yet, but you should start lowering your expectations regarding the price you are going to get in exchange for your former diamond engagement ring. The price you will eventually sell your diamond ring at is not nearly as high as the price it took to purchase it. That's mainly due to the fact that you buy at retail and sell at wholesale (at best). After trying to sell my diamond necklace to some local jewelry stores and receiving insulting offers for it, I decided to post it up in the newspaper classifieds section for a price that was more acceptable for me. It took some time and several appointments to no avail, but finally a serious buyer contacted me and we closed the deal. Bottom line is that I got a good enough price for my diamond necklace through classifieds, which I couldn't have gotten anywhere else! That's why I strongly recommend giving it try, and after all – what's the worst that could happen if you do so?
