Where should I sell my 1.5 carat diamond ring? An auction house? Classifieds?

I would really like to sell this as quickly as possible. What's better, Classifieds or an Auction house?

I sold my diamond earrings on a local classifieds list and it was a done deal within a week. I think the advantage of a local rather than national list is that the buyer and seller both know they are actually buying from or selling to somebody they can actually meet. The process is much more trusting and therefore both sides are generally more comfortable with the transaction. A downside of local lists is that your add will inevitably get less exposure that it would in a bigger paper... So you need to be lucky. You could always post the add in several local papers (or online mags). Good luck!

Both are fine. It really depends. And it's kind of a matter of luck too. But these two options are both often very successful. What you do do need to keep in mind if you want to make your selling endeavor as successful as possible, you need to make sure you know the value of your ring. The more documents you can provide about your diamond, the better.

I'm going to echo what's already been said. You must know how much your diamond is worth and be able to back it with certificates. If you prove that you can upfront, this will make the selling process a lot faster. I sold a white gold bracelet on an online classifieds site and it sold fairly quickly but not right away. People later told me that if I had cited the documentation I had about it and proved that I have these certificates, it would have been faster. I've personally never tried the auction angle, but I'm assum9ng it's actually a good way to go - you get people that are coming there to make a buy. You're not hoping that somebody might be interested in your product by some lucky chance. Not that people who are looking to buy jewelry don't go through the classifieds. Of course they do. But it just seems like people who attend an auction are in more of a buying mood. Good luck with it whatever way you chose to go, and don't forget those certificates!
