Diamond production in China - Where exactly?

I know that the diamond industry in China has developed rapidly in the last decade, both in terms of consumer demands and diamond production. I'm interested to know what are the diamond centers of China: Which cities have diamond cutting companies and where are diamonds mostly traded?

China is not only a developed diamond market due to its skilled professionals, but also due to its natural conditions. Diamond mines in China are far from being comparable with the prosperous diamond mines in South Africa, Botswana or even Canada, but two diamond mines in Shandong province, the Changma Diamond Mine and Xiaobuling Mine could perhaps become a decent source for rough diamonds. If these mines would prove to be a source for a significant mass of diamonds then China could enjoy the privilege of being a diamond mining, cutting and consuming country altogether.

China is indeed becoming a prominent player in the global diamond market. Markets in Hong Kong and mainland China are very strong and are proving to be a decent competitor to the US market, especially in 2009, in which China is recovering from the global recession much more smoothly than the US.

As for diamond production, there are big diamond polishing centers in Guangzhou province, not far from Hong Kong and in Shandong province.

There are two main diamond production centers: The northern one in Shandong province in the southern one in Guangzhou province, altogether including more than a 100 diamond polishing factories and about 70-80,000 workers.

Shandong is located in north-east China, not very far from Beijing. Many diamond cutting companies, as well as factories for polishing equipment run successfully in Shandong. Guangzhou, the capital city of the Guandong province in southern China is another huge diamond production center. It is located on the Pearl River Delta about 120 km from Hong Kong. Most diamond cutting factories are located in the Panyu district, which is often considered the capital of gem and jewelry in China. Panyu is a center which is characterized with modern technology, skilled professionals, cheap labor and quite a lot of money... A huge quota of rough diamonds are imported to Guanzhou daily.
