Is there a new cooperation agreement between Israel's diamond industry and China's diamonds institutes?

I read about some meeting that took place between representatives of the Israel Diamond Institute and representatives of the Chinese diamond market. I would like to know what is the purpose of these meetings and in what scale is this cooperation expected to take place. Does a trading agreement mean that Israel will export more diamonds to China and less to the US?

Connections between the Israeli diamond industry have taken place already five years ago, in a series of visits and meetings, mostly of Israeli delegates visiting Shanghai and Hong Kong. There is a positive trend in the relationship between the two industries, but they remain on a small scale. The main market with which Israel is trading diamonds is obviously still the US. This has to do with the fact that even in recession days, US consumer demands tops any other country. There is doubt whether this situation will remain this way for long, but my feeling is that Israel will remain loyal to the US and any shift of business to China will be done gently. Cooperation and deals assembled don't necessary involve the establishment of a new trading scheme and could also involve selling diamond polishing related equipment, assembling convention together and exchanging information and the hopes that each country has for the future of the global diamond industry. In present days, when the diamond market is becoming globally uniform in many aspect, including establishing global diamond price indexes, and all the local diamond industries are strongly influenced by guidelines set by the GIA (which nowadays is by far the most acknowledged and reputable diamond grading institute), it is important that big local diamond industry will coordinate and synchronize one with the other, even if direct diamond trading is conducted between them. Therefore, when meetings are held between representatives of different markets there's no need to conclude that future trading in a big scale is expected to take place between them.
