Actually there has been a change in the Canadian diamond industry lately, now that the Sudbury diamond plant has been established in Ontario, Canada. This new diamond plant is a brand new addition to the diamond industry in Canada, where up until this point the Northwest Territories have been the main focus where Canadian diamonds are concerned. Vietnamese diamond workers have been brought to the diamond plant in Sudbury to cut and polish diamonds. This year alone the new Sudbury diamond plant is expected to handle over $25 M of diamonds! In fact, the Sudbury plant has an agreement with De Beers Diamonds, stating that Sudbury will be getting diamonds from the Victor diamond mine near James Bay. This type of assistance and cooperation with De Beers certainly makes it looks like the diamond plant in Sudbury is going to be a major player in the global diamond industry. Let's face it – in the diamond industry money talks, so the lower cost of manpower at the Sudbury diamond plant is definitely going to give them a certain advantage over the Northwest Territories. But in spite of all that, we must remember that the Northwest Territories have been the main source of diamonds in Canada for years now so they are planning to hold their ground. In addition, NWT will be hiring more workers now that the recession is almost behind us. The government in Canada is also interested in having diamonds from the Northwest Territories as well as Sudbury, since competition in the Canadian diamond industry could prove to be beneficial to the country. And as for the rest of the world, it's definitely a good thing to have the diamond industry expand in a place that is environmentally conscious and far from conflict, like Canada.
