Who can help stop the trade of conflict diamonds?

I am strongly against any sort of human rights violations and I think it's just criminal that the Western world ignorantly pours millions of dollars into violence and barbarity when they buy conflict diamonds, without even knowing what they're doing. Is there anything that I can do personally to help curb the conflict diamond phenomenon?

There are many institutions which can, and need, to cooperate, in order to stop the commerce of conflict diamonds. Governments, diamond traders, NGOs, financial institutions, weapon manufacturers and of course diamond consumers themselves all have a responsibility to make sure that the conflict diamond phenomenon is blocked, and can participate in creating a conflict free diamond market.

When it comes to preventing the trade of conflict diamonds, every little bit of effort helps. You can always send letters to your government, find out what Amnesty International initiatives are already trying to combat the sale of conflict diamonds, and look up other philanthropic organizations associated with human rights and diamond trade. Moreover, every time you buy a piece of diamond jewelry, make completely sure that it is made of certified diamonds. Also, if you know your friends are going diamond shopping, make sure to tell them that they must make sure that their diamonds are not conflict diamonds. That way, you are not only putting in your two cents, but you are also educating the public about conflict diamonds.
