Huge blue diamond sold in Hong Kong - Details Please.

I read in short that a huge blue diamond was sold for $6 million last week (mid October 2009). Can someone tell me more about it, who bought it, what was the diamond's features, by whom was it sold, etc?

It was in a Sotheby's auction that the big (though I wouldn't call huge) 8.7 carat blue diamond was sold for 5.7 million dollars two weeks ago. Quite a high price if you consider the fact that it's not such a huge diamond, but I guess that the fancy blue color and the VVS1 clarity also contributed to the high price. This emerald diamond was purchased by an anonymous caller who was much more generous than the initial offer of "only" 1 million Hong Kong dollar.

During this Sotheby's auction there were numerous items sold, including many diamonds and jade products. A round D color 29 carat diamond was sold for 36.5 million Hong Kong dollar, making it the most valuable item sold on this event. Overall the sales were stretched over six days, generating 1.3 billion Hong Kong dollar, about a fifth more than the initial prediction made by Sotheby's.

Many Chinese traders and private diamond owners took part in the auctions, expressing the increasing passion of the Chinese for diamonds along with the rising high class, resulting in many new collectors of diamond jewelry, expensive arts and other "deluxe" products.

Anyway, as you see, blue diamonds are very expensive diamonds. In may this year Sotheby's sold a 7 carat flawless blue diamond for 9.5 million dollars, making it the most expensive diamond ever, in terms of cost per carat.
