I heard a rare fancy pink five carat diamond is going to be auctioned in China soon? That's a huge rock! Can anyone tell me a little bit about this and how much the stone is expected to fetch?

Here's the latest about that: the diamond ended up fetching 10.8 million dollars! That's more than twice the estimate. That means 2.2 million dollars per carat, which is a "value per carat" record. (though the most expensive diamond ever sold was the blue Wittelsbach stone from the 17th century, which was sold for a staggering 24 million dollars in 2008) It was set in a cushion cut and was designed by Graff diamonds. It isn't completely flawless, as it does have a few blemishes here and there, though they can supposedly be polished away easily.

Yeah, it's a fancy vivid pink diamond, like you said. It's going to be auctioned in Honk Kong in the beginning of December and it's expected to fetch around a million dollars per carat, that is, around 5 million dollars. The dollar market should be better in Hong Kong than in the U.S. That's why the auction is going to be held there. As for the stone itself, it originated in South Africa and it's displayed in New York, currently.
