Can I rent pearl jewelry to wear on my wedding day, rather than blowing my budget on expensive jewelry?

I'm not a big jewelery fanatic, so I'm pretty sure that whatever jewelry I buy for my wedding, I'll probably never wear again. With all the expenses of a big wedding, it seems kind of excessive to me to splurge on a pearl necklace that will most likely collect dust in my jewelry box for the next few decades. A friend of mine who got married recently said she rented a diamond necklace for her wedding so that's where I got the idea.

Sure! Renting your bridal jewelry is a great idea. Not everyone has a humongous budget to work with when it comes to their wedding day. You can rent pearl jewelry, and even diamond jewelry, for your wedding day. All it's gonna cost you is a security deposit and a slight percentage of the jewelry's original retail price. It's really a great bargain! I rented my bridal jewelry and not only did I look amazing in all that bling (which I could never afford if I had to buy it in full retail price), I also managed to save a few bucks in the process.

The great thing about renting pearl jewelry is that you pay less for the more extravagant stuff so you can look super elegant on your wedding day without having to worry about the hefty price tag. You can also order pieces of pearl jewelry for your bridesmaids if you'd like. The good news is that if you decide to order the pearl jewelry for your wedding online, most jewelry sites are actually very well organized and easy to use. It is important to make sure that it is a reputable site. First you will probably need to select the date of your wedding to see whether the piece of pearl jewelry you want to rent is available. Once you fulfill the order, you should receive a confirmation email stating the date when the jewelry is expected to arrive (keep in mind that you may need to be home in order to sign for the package once it arrives).

It is crucial that you check the following matters with the online jewelry rental provider prior to placing your order:

  • Insurance - Make sure that the pearl jewelry you order is insured and find out exactly what kind of insurance it is. Shipping insurance takes care of the jewelry when it's on its way to you. However, some forms of insurance will require a certain percentage of deduction if something happens to the pearl jewelry while it is in your trust.
  • Security deposit - Some sites might require a security deposit while you hold the rented pearl jewelry.
  • Late fees - Note that the late fees can be quite high since time is certainly of the essence when it comes to bridal jewelry. Their customers need their pearl jewelry for on certain dates for their special events so it's very important to return the jewelry on time.
  • Returning the jewelry - Check whether the online jeweler takes care to provide a pre-paid label so that you can ship the jewelry back to them after your wedding.
  • Jewelry care - Make sure that the pearl jewelry is cleaned before they send it to you. The last thing you want to deal with on your wedding day is some last minute jewelry cleaning.

I know you may be able to save a few bucks by renting your wedding jewelry, but wouldn't you want to keep the pearl jewelry you wear on your special day? Pearls are so classic, you can wear them until you're old and gray! I think pearl jewelry is a great investment, especially as an emotional investment. Renting pearl jewelry could be a nice option for someone else's wedding, but for your own, I say go with the real thing. That way you can cherish the jewelry you wore at your wedding forever.

There are places that let you rent out pearls, pearl jewelry, and basically any type of jewelry. There are large numbers of online stores which offer pearl jewelry for rent and I'm sure you'll be able to find gorgeous pearl jewelry in their catalogues. Also, you can look into renting from local jewelry stores. Ask your local jeweler if he would be willing to rent out the pearl jewelry pieces you want. Many brides prefer buying their wedding jewelry since they like to keep it as mementos, but there is nothing wrong with renting jewelry, and pearl jewelry in particular, especially if you never plan on wearing it again.
