What jewelry is perfect for a wedding AND for your life as a married woman?

I'm a bride on a budget! I want the perfect jewelry for my special day, but I can't make sense of wearing something only one time...what should I do?

Who said that perfect bridal jewelry isn't going to work for you ever again?! You can get simple and beautiful pieces which will accent your wedding dress beautifully, but won't be too extravagant to wear again... What about a simply-cut diamond or gemstone necklace in a classic setting which can be worn simply around your neck? You might just keep wearing it to remind you of that wonderful day! Another good idea is a diamond bracelet...or something simple in silver that you could wear again but would be gorgeous with a white dress.

First of all, who says that your bridal jewelry has to be diamond jewelry, or expensive jewelry for that matter. If you're on a tight budget then I suggest you forget about buying expensive pieces of jewelry and look for something a little more affordable. Instead of blowing your budget on pricey precious gemstone jewelry, consider spending your money frugally by buying relatively affordable jewelry set with semi-precious gemstones (such as topaz, citrine, garnet, opal, etc.), birthstones or artificially made gemstones (for instance, cubic zirconia, sequins or glass beads). If you insist on wearing genuine diamond or precious gemstone jewelry at your wedding then I recommend you rent your jewelry. Renting jewelry is very cost efficient. When renting bridal jewelry you are required to pay a small security deposit and a fraction of the piece's original retail price, which is a lot cheaper than actually buying your bridal jewelry. If the idea is to keep your bridal jewelry as mementos then you could always go with simple, classical jewelry designs, which would be appropriate for casual occasions as well as for formal events. Classy diamond stud earrings, an elegant diamond tennis bracelet or a simple, one-stoned diamond pendant would make for great bridal jewelry which could be worn again and again.

I had a classic pearl necklace at my wedding which I've continued to wear for years... If pearls are too traditional for you, you can find all kinds of stunning jewelry which will be perfect with your lovely white wedding dress, but will also look good with other outfits later on.

I understand your situation. When I got married I was on a tight budget but I managed to buy some really beautiful diamond jewelry at local estate sales. Estate sales are a great place to find relatively affordable, previously owned, vintage diamond jewelry, which you could easily pass off as bridal jewelry and which you could still wear after your wedding day is over. Not to mention that vintage jewelry is a great investment. The really quality pieces are hard to come by and antique jewelry collectors go crazy over these pieces. So, you could end up making a profit off of your bridal jewelry if you do decide to sell it after your wedding. Just make sure that the jewelry you buy at estate sales comes with a certificate of authentication. You don't want to pay for a vintage diamond piece only to find that it isn't genuinely vintage or that the diamonds aren't real.

I like the idea of pearl jewelry that doubles as bridal jewelry. I think that pearl jewelry is a little more casual than diamond jewelry and that it can be worn more casually. I'd go with pearl jewelry if I were you. Maybe a nice single strand of pearls, tasteful pearl studs or a pretty pearl studded pendant…
