Well renowned Hollywood actress Elizabeth Taylor was famous for her dazzling good looks, her fabulous lifestyle, as well as her truly one of a kind collection of high-end, high quality apparel and accessories, including beautiful designer gowns by Versace and Gucci, as well as amazingly designed, one of a kind jewelry pieces including beautifully made, exuberant emerald pendants, diamond dangles and diamond encrusted fashion rings. Following the actress’s demise, her fine jewelry pieces, featuring some of the most notorious pieces associated with the Hollywood phenomena, have been put up for auction.
The La Peregrina Pearl is one of the most notorious gemstones owned by the actress, along with the Elizabeth Taylor diamond, valued at three point five million US dollars, and the Burton diamond engagement ring featuring the astounding 33 carat Krupp Diamond, whose notoriety will undoubtedly be reflected in its selling price. The La Peregrina Pearl is scheduled for exhibition in early February, at the Chritie’s auction house in London. The famous pearl is said to measure in at approximately 200 grain, the equivalent of 55 carats, and is expected to fetch a price of up to three million US dollars in auciton.
The La Peregrina Pearl, being one of the world’s largest natural precious gemstones, was given to Taylor by her then husband, Richard Burton, who, in 1969, was said to have outbid a member of the Spanish royal family for the honor of presenting his wife with the astonishing pearl.
The exhibit will also feature Taylor’s incredible art collection, which includes amazing portraits by Vincent Van Gough and Renoir. Van Gough’s the Vue De L'Asile Et De La Chapelle De Saint-Remy, alone, is estimated to fetch up to seven million pounds.
Generating particular interest is Taylor’s yellow silk dress, designed by Irene Sharaff, which she wore when she married her ‘Cleopatra’ co-star, Richard Burton.
Taylor’s collection of gowns, jewelry and art pieces are estimated at approximately thirty million dollars and will feature some of Taylor’s more notorious pieces. This is not the first time Christie’s has put the actress’s jewels up for display. In September 2011, the well-renowned auction house launched a worldwide tour of Taylor’s most magnificent jewels, ending in a spectacular gala event in New York city. The tour boasted some of Taylor’s most famous jewels and was open to the general public. A portion of the proceeds went to The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation (ETAF).
